Top Bitcoin Adoption Stories (October 19 to October 26, 2026)
📚 Free starting Friday: Bitcoin Basics on Kindle
From Friday Oct 30 through Tuesday Nov 3, my book Bitcoin Basics: Understanding the Future of Money Through Quotes is free on Kindle. Each chapter pairs real quotes from Bitcoin’s builders, educators and skeptics with my plain-English commentary, covering what Bitcoin is, how it works, how to stay safe, and the skeptics’ case. It’s a good one to forward to the friend who keeps asking you about Bitcoin. Get it on Amazon. If it helps you, an honest review on Amazon goes a long way.

This week Bitcoin showed up in places many people already use: the savings bank app on their phone and the regular bank account they invest through. Here is what changed, and what each door means for who holds the keys.
1. Germany’s Savings Banks Bring Bitcoin into the Sparkasse App
DekaBank, the securities house of Germany’s Sparkassen savings banks, announced on October 19 that customers of participating Sparkassen can now buy and sell Bitcoin inside the regular Sparkasse app, through a new offer called “Krypto – powered by Deka.” The rollout is gradual over the coming months, and each Sparkasse decides for itself whether to join; CryptoSlate counted five participating banks as of October 20. Deka says the offer is for adult customers who decide on their own, with no advice from the bank, and that no securities account is needed. Each order costs a flat €0.99, plus a DekaBank spread built into the quoted price.
The custody details matter. Deka holds the coins and the private keys itself, in a shared (omnibus) wallet run on customers’ behalf. According to Deka’s product page, withdrawals are only possible to wallet addresses at certain licensed providers on Deka’s list; sending to any other address, such as your own self-custody wallet, is excluded.
Key Takeaway: Customers of participating Sparkassen can now reach Bitcoin from the app they already bank with, which lowers the first step. But if you can’t move your coins to a wallet you control, the bank holds the keys, not you. It’s an easy on-ramp; self-custody is the next step to learn.
2. Switzerland Approves Its First Retail Bitcoin ETF
Swiss regulator FINMA said on October 20 that it has, for the first time, approved an exchange-traded fund for retail investors that invests directly in Bitcoin. The issuer, BIT Asset Management in Zurich, named it the Bitcoin Fund ETF (ticker BBIT) and said it is expected to begin trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange in November. FINMA granted an exemption from the usual risk-diversification rules because Bitcoin has a long trading history and particularly high trading volume. In return, supervised institutions must take steps to reduce operational and custody risks, follow point-of-sale conduct rules under Switzerland’s Financial Services Act (FinSA), and give clear risk warnings in the fund documents.
BIT says the fund holds Bitcoin directly rather than futures, keeps its assets separate from the fund manager’s, and is open to ordinary retail investors, so people can buy it through a regular Swiss bank or brokerage account.
Key Takeaway: An ETF puts Bitcoin exposure inside a normal investment account under familiar rules. You own fund shares, not coins you can send, so it’s a different thing from holding your own sats.
3. Strategy Keeps Stacking: 267 BTC More, 848,517 BTC Total
Strategy bought 267 BTC between October 12 and October 18, according to an SEC 8-K filed October 19. That brought its holdings to 848,517 BTC as of October 18. The filing says the purchase was funded almost entirely with proceeds from selling its common stock, plus a small amount of cash.
Key Takeaway: A smaller weekly buy is still a buy. Strategy keeps adding BTC week after week, the same steady habit an individual stacker follows with sats, just at a much larger scale.
4. Strive Adds 4,045 BTC in a Week, Reaching 36,818 BTC
Strive said in an SEC 8-K filed October 19 that it bought 4,045 BTC between October 12 and October 16. That total includes 2,822 BTC it had already announced on October 14 and another 1,223 BTC bought October 14 to 16. Its holdings rose from 32,773 BTC on October 9 to 36,818 BTC on October 16. The same filing says holders exercised Strive’s traditional warrants on October 12 and 13 (the rest expired, and none remain), and that Strive priced a new preferred stock offering on October 15, set to settle October 20.
Key Takeaway: Strive grew its stack by roughly 12% in a single week (32,773 to 36,818 BTC, by our math from the filing) and keeps raising money to add more.
5. What Beginners Should Notice
Bitcoin is quietly appearing inside ordinary financial products: a German savings bank app, a Swiss retail ETF, and public companies that keep adding BTC to their balance sheets. Each one makes it easier to get exposure to Bitcoin. None of them hands you the keys. With the Sparkasse app, Deka holds the coins and limits where you can send them. With an ETF, you hold fund shares. With treasury companies, you hold stock.
Key Takeaway: Easy access is good, but before you use any of these products, ask one question: can I withdraw my Bitcoin to a wallet I control? If the answer is no, someone else holds your keys. Learning self-custody is how you truly own your sats.
